The baggage allowance and the cost of excess baggage are two of the main concerns of passengers on domestic and international flights. It means that it doesn’t matter where your destination is, if your load is more than the allowed amount, you will face a problem and you will have to pay an additional fee. This is a bigger issue for students who study abroad because they need to carry more baggage with them all the time. That is why we have decided to focus on baggage allowance and extra baggage in this blog post.

On each flight, passengers can take a certain amount of luggage with them, depending on the class they choose. That is, if your flight class is economy, you can take less luggage than business class or first class. The better your flight class is, the more your baggage allowance will be.

Some airlines set their baggage limits based on the destination, which means that, for example, the allowed baggage for a trip to the Middle East will be different from the baggage allowance for a trip to America. The best thing to do is to check the amount of luggage allowed by that airline at the time of purchasing the ticket. Usually, the maximum baggage allowance is written on the tickets.

If you want to bring a significant amount of luggage with you on the flight, you need to know a thing or two about baggage allowance. Having the required information will help you know the maximum allowed baggage on domestic and international flights and be able to calculate the cost of your excess baggage.

Now that you know your airline’s baggage allowance restrictions, weigh your bags to make sure they don’t exceed the limit. If you have excess baggage, be sure to go to the airport early to avoid any problems.

We suggest that you contact your travel agency or the airline and ask them about the exact cost of excess baggage as the fee may vary for each airline, flight class, or destination.

Checked Baggage vs Carry On

One of the most common questions that passengers may have is about the difference between checked baggage and carry-on luggage. What is a carry-on bag? The answer to this question is very simple. Every passenger has the right to take items as hand luggage with them onboard the cabin of the plane, except for the checked baggage that will be kept in the plane’s cargo area. This carry-on luggage must have specific dimensions and volume, which may differ from airline to airline.

Our recommendation is that passengers do not take too much hand luggage with them to the cabin, whether on domestic or international flights, and only carry important items such as laptops, important documents, and expensive items as carry-on luggage.

If you want to travel somewhere by plane, it is better to get detailed information about the allowed hand luggage to take on board the cabin, because not having the right information may lead to having to carry your carry-on in the cargo area and if your luggage exceeds the baggage allowance specified by the airline, you will have to pay for it.

In general, the length, width, and height of your hand luggage should not be more than 56, 45, and 25 cm so that it can easily fit in the compartment that is located above each seat. Also, the weight of this load should be between 5 and 7 kg, which of course will largely depend on the airline you choose and your flight class.

So, if you want to carry more than the allowed amount of luggage into the cabin, pay attention to the flight class you choose. Because on business class or first-class flights, you can bring more hand luggage (up to 15 kg). It is also good to know that sometimes the cost of extra baggage in economy class is higher than business or first-class tickets, so make sure to do your research on this.

Also, keep in mind that you should never leave your hand luggage in front of your feet or under the seat because it can create problems for emergency exits or other passengers onboard.

Hand Baggage Allowance

The European airline KLM has announced that the amount of hand luggage allowed for economy class flights is 7 kg and for business class 15 kg. Turkish Air has also announced the amount of hand luggage allowed for all its flight classes to be 8 kg. Like KLM, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, and Emirates have set a limit of 7 kg for economy class and 15 kg for business and first class.

When it comes to the items you are allowed to take into the cabin in your hand luggage, you need to know that avoid taking sharp and edged items such as nail clippers and nail files, perfumes and sprays, liquids, etc. are not allowed and only valuable items such as gold and money or your laptop can be carried onboard. Carry your cash, credit card and identification documents, laptop, and mobile phone so that you can have peace of mind about these things during your trip.
