Emirates Airlines announced in a statement that all passengers in any class can now use the in-flight Wi-Fi for free by registering with Skywards.

This has been made possible through the improvement of the flight connection system, and an additional 30,000 passengers in economy class can now be connected to the free Wi-Fi service each week.

All Skywards members, including blue, silver, or platinum members, and with any class of flight, such as economy, premium economy, business, or first class, can use the free in-flight internet. First-class passengers who are Skywards members can use unlimited internet during the flight to shop or work.

Emirates Airlines has always been at the forefront of in-flight Wi-Fi development and has spent $300 million on this to date. The airline announced that the 50 new A350 planes that are due to enter the fleet in 2024 will be equipped with new high-speed broadband. This will significantly improve the passenger experience of using high-speed internet even over the North Pole.

Singapore Airlines will become one of the first major international airlines to offer free, unlimited Wi-Fi to all passengers in all classes from July 1st, 2023. The enhanced Wi-Fi offering will be available across almost the carrier’s entire aircraft fleet and almost the whole global Singapore Airlines route network.

the new offering is open to anyone who is or becomes a member of the airline’s frequent flyer loyalty program, KrisFlyer. Customers across all cabin classes, from first class to economy, will be able to stay connected with loved ones, work online, keep up to date with the latest news, or update their social media feeds, regardless of where they might be.

Passengers in the airline’s Suites, first class, and business class cabins already enjoy free unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi. Additionally, since February 2023, KrisFlyer members traveling in premium economy and economy have enjoyed complimentary three-hour and two-hour limited Wi-Fi surf plans, respectively.

The roll-out will be incorporated across the entire Singapore Airlines fleet, except the seven Boeing 737-800s that the airline continues to operate. These aircraft are deployed on some of the airline’s shortest routes to destinations such as Phuket (HKT), Penang (PEN), and Kuala Lumpur (KUL).

The move by Singapore Airlines to offer free unlimited Wi-Fi to all passengers is seen as a significant enhancement to the airline’s in-flight experience. The airline has been gradually expanding its Wi-Fi services over the years, with complimentary Wi-Fi already available to passengers in its premium cabins and limited Wi-Fi surf plans available to KrisFlyer members in premium economy and economy cabins.

The new offering is expected to be a popular move among passengers, particularly given the increasing importance of staying connected during air travel. Singapore Airlines is also hoping that the move will boost membership in its KrisFlyer loyalty program, as passengers are required to be members of the program to access the free Wi-Fi.

The move by Singapore Airlines to offer free unlimited Wi-Fi to all passengers may also put pressure on other airlines to enhance their in-flight Wi-Fi services or offer free Wi-Fi to remain competitive. It will be interesting to see if other airlines follow Singapore Airlines’ lead in the future.
